Take My Hand
2008
Take my hand and follow me,
There are things ahead for you to see.
Little wonders are all around,
And tender mercies to be found.
We’ll take our time, no need to run,
Breathe deep the air and feel the sun.
The grass is soft beneath our feet,
Sounds are soothing, the air is sweet.
Sometimes we’ll stop and just be still,
Our hearts will tell us God is real!
Small graces along our path appear,
They let us know that Heaven’s near.
So take my hand anew each day,
The walk is lovely and I know the way.
“Take my Hand” is about enjoying the journey. How often did Jesus admonish us to “become as a little child” in order to “enter the Kingdom of Heaven.” Many of those heavenly blessings can be experienced here and now as we emulate the qualities inherent in little children. I used our oldest grandson, Zac, as a model for this piece. Zac’s enjoyment of life is typical of that exhibited by so many children. They are endlessly curious, they don’t worry about tomorrow and they find joy in simplest of things. They also seem to be just a little more in touch with Heaven than those of us who’ve already been around the block a few times. “Taking His Hand” means letting ourselves be more like those little children and trusting that the Lord knows the path that is designed especially for us.
