“The Way of Joy” depicts John the Baptist and Jesus as not only second cousins but as true friends. This image represents two extraordinary individuals whose earthly lives ended in grief and violence. Nevertheless, I imagine them as souls who lived life with exuberance and joy in spite of their sorrows. The life they promoted was the way of joy, the way to truly be happy. Not through a somber life of piousness and mere endurance to the end, but a life filled with gratitude, wonder, love and service, even a life filled with smiles and laughter. These are the emotions that bring us nearer to God and each other.
